If days were years my challenge would now be old enough to drink! Here theat the three week mark in the 30 Day Geek Out Challenge I’m prompted to write about how fandoms influenced my life.
My first thought on this was feeling like this post was going to be another semi-pass for me. After thinking about it though, I I came to realize my fandoms have generally had a rather positive influence on my. My wife and I both have our particular fandoms and geeky tendencies and while they often don’t overlap, we’re compatibility geeky in the way that when the other is really into something we totally get it. These persuasions have lead us to many a convention, Renaissance Faire, and similar gatherings over the years and are the source of many fond memories. She’s also (as I’ve mentioned many times here over the years) an excellent source of new fandoms for me which I find to be a pretty great thing.
It hasn’t really come up in any these posts yet, but I’m also a pretty big baseball fan (a bit less avid in recent years, but still passionate nonetheless) and that has certainly been the source of many an adventure as well. At the risk of alienating my local readers, despite living in Boston for most of my life I most definitely do not root for the home team which means that whenever I come across another Yankees fan socially I have an instant in on something to talk about. Being extremely introverted that’s something I really appreciate!
I suppose you could also say that my inspiration for the blog came from my fandoms. I wanted a place to express myself and talk about beer and ready, two of my favorite things! Hey, you can geek out/be a fan of just about anything, right?
